A School Nurse provides care for children ages
K-12.
School Nurse provide many types of
services:
• Provides direct health care to students and staff.
• Conducts health - related classroom presentations.
• Provides screening and referral for health conditions
• Promotes a healthy school environment.
• Promotes health.
• Provides emergency first aid.
• Makes referrals to appropriate community resources.
• Serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, community, and health care providers.

-Local
Education Agency's Boards of Education
-Departments of Health
-Public Health Departments and Agencies
-Hospitals, hospital districts
-Private, Parochial and Charter schools, Universities

Job Qualifications |
|
Job requirements vary from state to state, here
are the basics.
-Registered Nurse/RN education: ASN, BSN or MSN.
-Certified in CPR or BLS
-Knowledge of school health programs such as vision, hearing
screening, immunization requirements.
-Minimum of one (1) year experience in public health nursing,
community health nursing, school health nursing or pediatric nursing. |

School Nurse Certifications |
|
National Certified School Nurse (NCSN):
NCSN' as the official credential of the National Certified School Nurse.
School Nurse certification is granted for a period of five (5) years at which time the certificant must either retake and pass the Certification Examination for School Nurses or meet current continuing education and recertification requirements.
