Job Description |
|
Job Role: The main focus of this job role is to promote
safety awareness by taking proactive steps to prevent industrial accidents from
occurring, hence, education is a vital part of the nursing process.
Provide hands-on care for injured or ill workers, monitors for hazardous exposures, takes patient's vital signs, treats wounds, evaluates physical condition of patient, and contacts physician and hospital to arrange for further medical treatment, when needed.
Develops employee programs, such as health education, accident prevention, alcohol abuse counseling, curtailment of smoking, and weight control regimens. Gives allergy injections and sponsored immunizations to employees.
Ensures compliance with various agency requirements pertaining to occupational health and safety. May conduct pre-employment and scheduled drug screening.
Academic Roles: Clinical nurse,
clinical nurse manager, nurse manager, corporate nurse, nurse researcher, nurse
educator and nurse consultant.
Work Setting: Industries such as meat packing,
manufacturing, construction, environmental health clinics, as well as the health care industry. |

Job Qualifications |
|
Depending on the work setting, some or all, of the following qualifications may
be required:
Registered Nurse with two years of clinical experience. Some
workplaces may require 3-5 years. ADN, BSN, MSN, PhD degree, HIV counseling certification,
experience drawing blood, ability to perform and read PPD's, excellent communication and organization skills,
CPR certified,
COHN certification. (BCLS) Basic Cardiac Life Support or (ACLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification. |
