NPs are advanced practice nurses who provide high-quality
healthcare services similar to those of a doctor. NPs diagnose and treat a wide
range of health problems. They work in all areas of medicine and in a wide
variety of health care settings. NPs provide many types of
services, such as:
• Order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests
• Diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions
• Prescribe medications and other treatments
• Manage patients' overall care

Job Qualifications |
|
In addition to the Master’s degree, nurse practitioners must also be licensed in the state in which they want to practice. Each state has different requirements, so you should check your local nursing organizations for more information about practicing in your state.
The clinical setting of employment will dictate what other
credentials are required. For example, if you will be working in a critical care area BCLS, ACLS
are required. If working in a pediatric environment then PALS would also be
required. Also some jobs may required a certain amount of
clinical experience, while others are willing to train you. |
